When asked about the experience at Mercy Medical Centre in Des Moines, the capital city of Iowa, Kendall Stewardson, 24, said she could not talk about it.
"It wouldn't be TV appropriate," Mrs Stewardson joked.
Baby Asher was born healthy and nine days late. He was 23.5in long.
The family has a history of big babies with Asher's big brother Judah weighing in at 12lbs 1oz at his birth and both parents weighing more than 10lbs when they were born.
Mrs Stewardson said she had no relevant medical conditions during her pregnancy and gave birth to Asher without painkillers.
Large babies can often be traced back to gestational diabetes.
Asher sets a record at his hospital - where staff delivered more than 5,000 babies last year - but falls about a pound short of the state record.
The largest Iowa baby on record was born in Johnson County in 1980 weighing in at 14bs 13oz.
